yesterday went all right. i learned how to make a ton of drinks, and drank far too much caffeine.
i went to visit a friend i haven't seen in a while on the way home from work. we talked for a few minutes about his grandmother dying this past weekend and her funeral on monday. then we heard this amazingly loud squeal and crash out on the street below.
a woman in an s.u.v. had been hit by a woman in a much smaller toyota who did not yield at a stop sign, and the s.u.v. flipped over the toyota and onto the driver's side, and slid about forty feet.
the driver of the toyota was not injured and barely shaken, though the front end of her car was totalled. it was the driver of the s.u.v., a woman on her way to pick up her kid at school (undoubtedly believing that her s.u.v. was the safest thing next to a bradley fighting vehicle in which to do it), who was injured and needed help exiting her vehicle. she had cut both her hands and wrists and was badly shaken. she was astoundingly lucky, and i believe she knew this, even in her state of shock.
my buddy and i left the scene within a cigarette's length because the paramedics and police were there that quickly to handle things and we had not seen the accident itself. we talked again about the fragility of life, the immediacy of death, and the immediate necessity of meeting others' needs.
oh, and later i made the vee carrot cake.
