the bosko has been a bit more pissy than usual of late. and by pissy i mean that he has been pissing more or less constantly - in the box, outside the box, on the furniture, on the walls, on the floor, etc. - and there has been a distinctly pinkish hue to the puddles and stains. once i realized that it was urine, and not some sort of weird pink goop coming out of his nose (don't ask), i thought "bosko must have a urinary tract infection". (i should point out that i discovered that it was absolutely urine when he chose to take a whiz three feet from me on wednesday afternoon.)
anyway, this morning the vee and i took the bee to the osu vetrinary hospital. the vets kept him all day and did a bunch of tests (which were not at all inexpensive, mind you) and determined that there was no quick fix like a run of antibiotics and there were no kidney or bladder stones (which i was positive was the case before the expensive x-rays!).
the prognosis? feline idiopathic sterile cystitis otherwise known as
feline lower urinary tract disease or feline urinary syndrome.
basically, it only confirms what is already obvious to anyone who knows the bosko, that he is an exceedingly fussy and stressed-out kitten. (i promise you, this fussiness and stressed-out-edness is not directly due to me, but precedes me as his roommate and care-giver.) we have to change his diet to the mushy canned stuff (which is bad for his teeth), make sure he gets plenty of water, change his litter back to the stuff he tolerates better, and in every other way try to de-stress the kitten. he needs to listen to calming music when he's left alone all day and i need to make sure his routine is not disturbed by annoyances like flea baths and my anything but frequent trips out of town. he's pretty much become more of a "special" cat than he was before this summer.
all i can say is, "that's my kitten."
