don't know why

i really can't say why the song "don't know why" by norah jones makes me think of christmas time. i mean, there's more to it than the song was an insanely huge hit last year around the holidays.

there is something about her style of singing and playing piano which harkens to my mind vince guaraldi's combo playing the music to "a charlie brown christmas", but there is also some of "blue christmas" and other bluesy or jazzy christmas tunes like "have yourself a merry little christmas". like joni mitchell's "river", there is a sense of christmas blues even if the song isn't properly a holiday song.

i bought the album a couple of days ago, and many of the songs on it, including the title track, "come away with me", and "peace", one of the tracks on the import bonus disc, have the same sentimental and musical quality. but in my memory, due to this similarity to such classics of holiday melancholy, in conjunction with it's popularity at that time last year, "don't know why" will be forever a song which makes me think of the holidays and my trip to memphis with the vee.
